Originally planned to commence in March in India, the event got postponed due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and got rescheduled for September with a different venue. The event kicked off in UAE on September 19 and will go on till November 10. The event was earlier being sponsored by VIVO which later pulled out, the current sponsors being Fantasy cricket league platform Dream11 as title sponsor and Indian online education technology company Unacademy as the official partner. The matches are scheduled till November 3 after which four top-ranked teams will be chosen for play-offs. These teams will then play four matches to decide the winner.
This year some extra rules have been added to the game to observe safety guidelines for COVID-19. While all the matches are being played without an audience, the players are also not allowed to use saliva to shine the ball. The captains cannot shake hands after the toss and front foot no-balls will be adjudicated by the third umpire rather than the on-field umpire. Replacement will be allowed in case any of the player tests corona positive.
